Sandbags on Plum Island.
PLUM ISLAND (CBS) – Huge sandbags have been stacked along the Plum Island shore as crews try to prevent further erosion that’s threatening homes.
Town officials say the sandbagging is just a Band-Aid after last week’s storm resulted in another round of tremendous damage to the coastline.
“This is a temporary fix,” said Sam Joslin from the town of Newbury’s zoning enforcement. “Maybe this summer we can start working on some permanent solutions for these homeowners.”
Currently, seven homes are impacted. Some people had to evacuate their homes and still are not allowed to return.
The foundations of those homes are in jeopardy.
Crews will be back out later this week putting up more rows of sandbags to keep waves and wind from doing any more damage.
