BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts has joined with Connecticut and other U.S. states in a moment of silence and the ringing of church bells for victims of last week’s elementary school massacre.
Gov. Deval Patrick led an observance Friday at the Garden of Peace in Boston at 9:30 a.m., the time of the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings in Newtown, CT, a week ago.
The Garden of Peace is a memorial to hundreds of homicide victims. It is located near the Massachusetts Statehouse.
Many churches around the state, including Boston’s historic Old North Church, rang their bells 26 times in honor of the 20 children and six adults who died in the Connecticut school attack.
