BOSTON (CBS) – John Kerry hasn’t left the Senate yet, but there’s already a poll out on who might win his seat, if he becomes Secretary of State.
The early leader is outgoing Sen. Scott Brown.
The WBUR-MassINC poll shows Brown wins in a rout in potential head-to-head match ups with Democrats.
He beats Attorney General Martha Coakley by 15 points, Congressman Ed Markey by 18 points, Rep. Michael Capuano by 19, and trounces Congressman Stephen Lynch by a 27 point margin.
Brown seems to have emerged from his loss to Elizabeth Warren with his approval rating relatively unscathed
The poll finds 58-percent with a favorable view of him, far better than the potential challengers. He even tops Senator-elect Warren’s 54-percent favorable rating.
The poll also showed that Gov. Deval Patrick would win a Democratic primary, but lose to Brown by seven points head-to-head. However, Patrick has said he will not run for the seat.
Actor-director Ben Affleck was not named in the survey, despite speculation he could become a candidate.
