Trooper Shoots Carjacking Suspect During Chase In Lynn

LYNN (CBS) - A State Police trooper shot and injured a man during a chase through Lynn Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:30pm, a state trooper approached an SUV on the Lynnway that was suspected of drug activity. According to State Police, the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Luis Rosario of Dorchester, attempted to hit the trooper with his car and fled the scene.

The trooper suffered minor injuries but was able to get back in his cruiser and pursue Rosario.

During the chase, Rosario allegedly rammed two State Police cruisers and two passenger cars at the intersection of Boston and Franklin Streets.

A trooper fired his gun at Rosario after he left his crashed car and stole a minivan from a Good Samaritan that had stopped to help with the crash. Rosario was shot in the arm but was able to flee again in the minivan.

He was caught by Lynn Police officers on Cliff Street after leaving the stolen minivan on Atkins Street. He was transported to Salem Hospital under police guard.

A woman whose car was hit by Rosario was also transported to the hospital for evaluation.
