Quincy Man Arrested After Breaking Into Cathedral Of The Holy Cross

BOSTON (CBS) -A 26-year-old Quincy man has been charged with breaking and entering after police say he broke into the Cathedral Of The Holy Cross.

Police were called to the church around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and saw lit candles throughout the entire church, including in the attic and basement.

Police found Jorge Jose Guvara lying on the ground behind the altar with an open bottle of sacramental wine, an open container of the Eucharist and battery-operated candles around him.

All the cabinets and drawers were open in the chapel.

Officers searched the church for any other damage and found some broken candles in the basement chapel.

Guvara told police he came to the church in search of peace.

Guvara has been charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony.
