BOSTON (CBS) – The man who founded the famed North End institution Mike’s Pastry has passed away.
Michael Mercogliano officially established the bakery in the North End in 1946.
The announcement of his passing appeared in a post on the company’s Facebook page.
“It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow that we announce the death of the grandfather, father, husband – the Owner of Mikes Pastry – Mr. Michael Mercogliano. We will love and miss you everyday !!” the statement read.
Condolences poured in from far and wide.
For years, tourists from around the world have flocked to Mike’s Pastry to try one of its famed cannoli.
Mercogliano was 90 years old.
