Worcester Gun Buy-Back Program Turns Up World War II Rifle

WORCESTER (CBS) – An effort to get guns off the street in Worcester brought in more than 100 weapons, plus an unexpected piece of history.

Someone turned in a vintage Japanese rifle from World War II, complete with a bayonet.

Most of the weapons will be destroyed, but doctors at the UMass Medical Center, which runs the buy-back program, will see if any museums want the rifle.

The program has taken more than 2,000 guns off the streets since it began in 2002.
