Arson To Blame For Fire At Raynham Park Dog Track

RAYNHAM (CBS) - Investigators have confirmed a fire Monday night was caused by arson.

The fire broke out shortly before 10 p.m. Monday in a storage building on the grounds of the former site of Raynham Park dog track.

"You have to sleep with one eye open these days, " said Raynham Fire Chief Jim Janusc.

But if this latest blaze is the work of the arsonist, he's turned it up a notch.

This time, there were dozens of people nearby, in the clubhouse of the Raynham-Taunton Racetrack.

The other 18 fires were at abandoned buildings, or storage sheds, with no one nearby.

"Hopefully, we'll catch him before someone gets hurt," said Janusc.

The Massachusetts State Police, Raynham police and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on scene Monday night investigating the fire's cause.

Police on the South Shore are on alert as this marks the 19th arson fire over the last two months. On Monday, an abandoned building went up in flames in Weymouth.

Investigators are asking that anyone who has any information about this fire, or any of the others, give them a call.
