Man Hits Moving Freight Train With Car While Looking For Cell Phone

MANSFIELD (CBS) – A driver was  hurt Monday when his car hit a freight train in Mansfield.

It happened around noon at a railroad crossing on Forbes Boulevard near Route 495.

Police say the man took his eyes off the road and was looking for his phone when he crashed into the side of the moving train.

Police say there are not lights or gates at that crossing. The man works nearby at an industrial complex.

The driver of the car was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital but police do not believe his injuries are life-threatening.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
