WINCHESTER (CBS) – Hundreds of members of the military will be getting a little something extra this holiday season thanks to a program that sends them donated Christmas trees for the holidays.
The “Trees for Troops” program sends trees around the world to servicemen and women and their families.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Doug Cope reports
In Massachusetts, Mahoney’s Garden Centers are collecting donations this year. Each tree costs $24.50.
Mahoney’s eight locations are in Winchester, Chelmsford, Tewksbury, Falmouth, Brighton, Osterville, Concord and Wayland. They’ve also set up a hotline where you can purchase a Trees for Troops tree. The number is (781) 721-4691.
The program runs through next Sunday, December 2.
In all, trees will be delivered to families on 60 military bases around the world as part of the nationwide program this year.
Last year, Mahoney’s trees were shipped up and down the east coast to Coast Guard Stations, a Navy Station and a National Guard Station.
This year, Mahoney’s trees are planned for a similar route, including the Boston Coast Guard Station.
