Rodent control efforts are being put into place to fend off what Bill Spain, president of the Castle Island Association calls a growing rat infestation problem.

"It almost looks like Manhattan Island, there are so many rats out there," Spain told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
The nonprofit historical preservation group is making efforts to tackle the problem, but is appealing for help from its neighbors: Massport and the city of Boston.

"It can turn into a big epidemic as far as I'm concerned," Spain said. "If they get overpopulated, they're going to be traveling and go right back to the mainland. So it's everybody's problem."

In the meantime, Spain said the Castle Island Association has canceled its monthly meetings at the park until the rat problem gets better.
