BOSTON (CBS) – An asbestos leak forced authorities to re-route traffic in downtown Boston Wednesday morning.
Check: Traffic Updates
A 14-inch steam line on Union Street had a small rupture overnight, sending steam and particles of the asbestos insulation covering the pipe into the air.
Congress Street between New Sudbury and North Streets was shut down for the morning commute and part of Union Street was also closed.
The fire department said the asbestos release was small.
The goal is to have it cleaned up by early afternoon and the street opened for the evening commute.
