Wrentham Considers Adult Entertainment District

WRENTHAM (CBS) - The hometown of Senator Scott Brown and the popular Wrentham Outlets is considering an adult entertainment district.

The town's planning board has come up with two locations where an adult entertainment district could be zoned.

One location is at the end of Industrial Road off Route 140 near Franklin. The other is near Norfolk's Shire Industrial Park off Route 1A.

Even though both proposals are considered far away from residential areas, realtor Ron Arpino of Keller William Realty says having such a zone would have a negative effect on home values and on the community's image.

"People will want to start to sell when they know this is coming in. And when that happens, you get panic selling," Arpino said. "I think it's going to destroy the image of the town."

A similar plan has been struck down in the past, but local officials who are pushing to create the zone note that the town currently does not have restrictions on where adult entertainment businesses can open, leaving it vulnerable.

Without such a restriction, an adult video store or a strip club could move in any commercial/business zone in town.

Residents will have a chance to weigh in next Wednesday at a public hearing on the proposal during the planning board meeting.
