BOSTON (CBS) – The popular owner of an Allston tattoo parlor is now recovering in a Boston hospital after being struck by a hit and run driver.

Brenda Wynne was attempting to cross Commonwealth Avenue at Kelton Street about 4:00 p.m. the afternoon of Halloween. Friends say she had stepped off the island, but was stepping back on when she realized the light hadn’t changed.

She says a white colored SUV hit her, forcing her onto the windshield. “She ended up probably fifteen feet from the crosswalk,” said friend Bill Chambers. “Come on, you have to stop. They have no idea what condition they left her in.”

Wynne underwent five hours of surgery with a pelvic bone broken in three spots, broken leg and gash on her forehead. Friends believe there’s someone driving now with a broken windshield and they’ve spread the story of the accident like wildfire on Facebook.

“It’s just so inhuman, heartless, I don’t know how you can sleep at night,” said Scott Matalon, who co-owns Stingray Body Art in Allston with Wynne. He says the timing of the accident couldn’t be worse since Wynne is battling back from a rare kidney disease, that’s kept her from the shop and her work. “It’s been inspirational to watch her fight the battle,” says Matalon. “She would say, ‘I want to come back, I want to tattoo again, I want get strong again and work again.”

They hope that spirit will help her recovery after undergoing five hours of surgery for internal injuries and broken bones. And they hope the driver that left her in the street will have a change of heart.
