BOSTON (CBS) – Some superstitious Red Sox fans are cashing in on the team’s history.

The last day of the Red Sox season, 11 people played the first five numbers of retired Red Sox players on Mass Cash.

The winning numbers on October 3 were 1-4-6-8 and 9, meaning they all won the $100,000 jackpot.

The retired numbers belong to Bobby Doerr, Joe Cronin, Johnny Pesky, Carl Yastrzemski, and Ted Williams.

The odds of those numbers being picked are one in more than 324,000.

A Malden nurse is one of the winners. “At first I didn’t believe it,” said Kimberly Nizza, who was one of the few lucky winners who had no idea about the Red Sox connection.

“I thought it was great, what a coincidence, said Paul Sternburg of the Massachusetts State Lottery. “What are the odds of that happening when you think about it.”

Nizza was just playing the numbers in her birth date.

“I think I’m a better nurse than a sports fan,” said Nizza.

WBZ-TV’s Michael Rosenfield contributed to this report.
