MSPCA: Lawrence Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty For Starving Dogs

LAWRENCE (CBS) - Animal cruelty charges have been filed against a Lawrence woman accused of neglecting her two dogs, both of which died.

A police officer found one the dogs, a one-year-old Havanese that had already died, wrapped in a plastic bag inside Raisa Reyes' apartment.

Reyes agreed to surrender a second dog, a two-year-old pit bull named Jada, to the MSPCA.

Jada was severely starved and dehydrated, according to a veterinarian evaluation.

Her condition, described as "grave" prompted officials to conclude she should be euthanized.

Reyes will be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on November. 28. on two counts of felony animal cruelty charges for failing to provide sufficient food.
