BOSTON (CBS)  – The Boston Red Sox claimed right-handed pitcher Sandy Rosario off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

The team also designated outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin for assignment.

The 27-year-old Rosario made 25 appearances for Triple-A New Orleans in 2012, all in relief, posting a 1.04 ERA and striking out 24 batters. Opponents hit just .215 of Rosario, who finished with 16 saves in as many chances.

Rosario also appeared in four Major League games for Miami in 2012, allowing six runs over three innings. He has 10 career Big League outings over the last three seasons, and has compiled a 30-18 record with 47 saves, a 3.15 ERA and 403 strikeouts over 181 career minor league outings, including 35 starts, in the Marlins system.

The 24-year-old Lin, signed as an international free agent in 2007, made his Major League debut last season, batting .250 in nine games for Boston.  Lin appeared in 113 games for Triple-A Pawtucket, batting .247 with 11 doubles, five triples, two home runs, 30 RBI, 42 runs scored, 42 walks and 15 stolen bases.
