Federal Agents Raid Framingham Pharmacy Linked To Meningitis Outbreak

FRAMINGHAM (CBS) - Federal agents and the US Attorney's office are serving search warrants at the New England Compounding Center in Framingham.

Nationwide, more than 200 people have been sickened and 15 are dead from a rare form of fungal meningitis linked to the pharmacy.

NECC suspended operations shortly after the outbreak.

A spokesman for the FDA says the raid is part of their ongoing investigation during which they have been working closely with the CDC, several state health departments, and the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy to, "fully investigate the scope and cause of the outbreak of fungal meningitis."

Paul Cirel, Counsel to NECC released the following statement on the search:

"It is difficult to understand the purpose of this search, since we have been clear that New England Compounding Center would provide, and has provided, anything requested. We've been clear that warrants weren't needed; asking would have produced the same result. Nevertheless, we continue to offer our cooperation."
