IPSWICH (CBS) – It is now a lot easier to raise chickens in your backyard if you live in Ipswich.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Carl Stevens reports
On Monday, the town approved an article at Town Meeting that allows anyone to raise chickens on less than an acre of land.
Before Monday, residents had to get a $150 permit, appear at the Board of Selectmen and, if granted the permit, pay a $75 fee to the Registry to Deeds.
“I definitely see a trend where people are becoming interested not only in locally grown food, but also in being able to grow their own food. That includes chicken and fresh eggs,” Assistant Planner Kathy Connor told WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Carl Stevens.
