BOSTON (AP) — The USS Anzio guided missile cruiser is open for free public tours this weekend during its second port visit to Boston for Columbus Day.
The Norfolk, Va.-based ship is the second Navy vessel named in honor of the men and women who served in the World War II battle at Anzio, Italy, in 1944.
The Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser is berthed at Massport’s North Jetty in South Boston. Capt. John Dorey, of Auburn, and nearly 300 sailors arrived on the ship.
Anzio sailors will be marching in Sunday’s Columbus Day parade in East Boston.
The 9,650-ton ship will be open for public tours through Monday from noon to 4 p.m.
