SANDWICH (CBS) – A Cape Cod middle school student has been diagnosed with whooping cough, according to a report in the Cape Cod Times.
Sandwich Public Schools officials reportedly sent an alert to parents about the case that was discovered on Friday.
The report says the case involves a seventh grader at Oak Ridge School.
According to the state, there have been twice as many confirmed cases of pertussis in Massachusetts in 2012,, about 150, as in the same period last year.
The state’s Health and Human Services Department recommends vaccinating to prevent it.
