LAWRENCE (CBS) – One man has been convicted and a second released over the killing of a Chinese food delivery driver in Lawrence.
Daniel Lopez was sentenced to serve up to 18 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of voluntary manslaughter.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Bernice Corpuz reports
Prosecutors say Lopez placed an order to Evergreen Restaurant in July 2009 with the intent to rob and steal the food from delivery man, Thu Nguyen.
During the robbery, Nguyen was struck in the head and left on the sidewalk. He died the following day.
Nguyen’s daughter, Candy, who spoke in court, says her father was a hard-working man who escaped from Vietnam and fought cancer, only to die in a senseless manner.
Lopez’s alleged accomplice Ronnie Ramos was found not guilty of unarmed robbery.
