Scituate Man Dies After Canoe Capsizes In Cohasset Reservoir

COHASSET (CBS) – A young man fishing with a friend drowned late Thursday night when their canoe flipped over in the Aaron River Reservoir in Cohasset.

Police say the friend made it to shore and ran for help.

He knocked on Jeff Flanagan's door.

"I see a kid, sitting there, soaking wet, saying 'Excuse me sir, I'm really sorry, I was out on a canoe with my friend. I flipped over the canoe, I swam back to the rocks.  I can't find my friend.  I don't know where he is. So I grabbed my phone, I ran out here with him and called 911," Flanagan told WBZ-TV.

Cohasset fire and rescue and the State Police searched the reservoir for three hours.

They found the victim's body around 1 a.m.

His name has not been released. He's 23-years old and from Scituate.

It's not clear yet what caused the canoe to capsize.
