Arlington Police Officer Hurt In Crash Responding To Bank Robbery

ARLINGTON (CBS) - Police are searching for a man who robbed the Citizens Bank in Arlington Heights Thursday morning.

According to investigators, a masked man demanding money scaled a counter in the bank and grabbed a bag of cash.

He did not show a weapon and no note was passed to the teller.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'6," wearing a maroon baseball hat, dark hooded sweatshirt, and sneakers.

He disguised himself by wearing sunglasses and covering the lower portion of his face with a dark scarf.

The man ran off and attempted to hop a fence in a nearby Petco parking lot.  But, the dye pack inside the bag exploded.

Several thousand dollars and the exploded dye packs where recovered near the area where the crime occurred.

While heading to the scene, an Arlington Police cruiser crashed on Summer Street.

According to Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan his officer was "banged up" and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
