NORWOOD (CBS) – A state trooper was hurt after his cruiser was hit by a pickup truck on Interstate 95 early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 3:40 a.m. on 95 South near Exit 11 in Canton, right by the Norwood line.
State police said Trooper Kenneth Downey, 27, was on a detail, sitting in his parked cruiser protecting a road paving crew, when the car was rear-ended by a pickup with three people inside.
Trooper Downey had to be pulled out of the mangled cruiser by firefighters.
Police said he was conscious and alert but in pain. He was taken to Boston Medical Center, treated and released.
The pick-up driver Ricardo Lepe, 35, of Beverly will be summonsed for operating to endanger and marked lanes violation.
He and two other people in the pickup were all taken to Norwood Hospital with minor injuries.
Police said Lepe may have fallen asleep and that the truck was going about 60 miles per hour when it drifted into the cruiser.
