BOSTON (AP) — The head of Atlanta’s public transit system has been hired to oversee the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Lana Jones reports

The state transportation board voted unanimously on Monday to select Beverly Scott as general manager of the MBTA. Scott was awarded a three-year contract with an annual salary of $220,000.

Scott currently serves as chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Authority. She previously served as head of the transit system in Sacramento, Calif., and as general manager of the Rhode Island Transit Authority.

The board announced its choice after conducting final interviews with Scott and a second finalist, Dwight Ferrell, who also works for the Atlanta system as deputy general manager and chief operating officer.

Scott will succeed Jonathan Davis, who has been the MBTA’s interim general manager since last September.
