James Potenza
HAVERHILL (CBS) – A warrant has reportedly been issued for the former treasurer of a youth football league north of Boston who is accused of stealing as much as $80,000 from the league, after he skipped a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday.
James Potenza, 55, is apparently out the country. According to his LinkedIn profile, he took a job in the United Arab Emirates – a country that does not have any extradition treaty with the US.
According to the Salem News, the judge issued a warrant for his arrest, but gave Potenza one week to show up at court without any recourse.
Potenza’s attorney reportedly told the court he “had trouble finding work” in the U.S., so he took a job overseas.
The attorney also claims that Potenza intends to use the money to pay restitution in the case.
