BOSTON (CBS) – A 53-year-old Roxbury man driving the wrong way on I-93 caused a fatal crash in Boston Sunday morning.
Idefonso Barros drove south on the northbound side of I-93 and was reportedly ejected after he collided head on with another vehicle near the entrance to the Tip O’Neill Tunnel. He was transported to a Boston hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Firefighters had to free the other driver, Jennifer Green, who was trapped inside a car. Police say the 45-year-old woman from Chelmsford is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
A third car was involved but the driver was not injured.
The crash happened shortly after 5:30am and the road was closed for about an hour. State Police say all lanes were open by 8:30am.
The crash is still under investigation.
