UMass To Reimburse Students $15,000 For Move-In Day Parking Confusion
AMHERST (AP) — The University of Massachusetts plans to reimburse students about $15,000 for a parking snafu on move-in day that resulted in 132 cars getting towed from a campus lot.
Cars were barred from the lot near two residential areas on the Amherst campus from Sunday into Monday to make the move-in process smoother.
The university tried to inform students, but not everyone got the message.
UMass' towing contractor hauled 132 cars out of the lot at $145 a pop — a $40 ticket and $105 in towing fees.
The ticket will be waived and the towing fee reimbursed.
The school's executive director of residential life sent an email to students to apologize for the "confusion and inconvenience."
A university spokesman says parking restrictions will be better explained next year.
