Grandfather, Child Hurt By Rolling SUV In Ashburnham

ASHBURNHAM (CBS) - A grandfather and a little girl were hurt when an SUV rolled down a driveway in Ashburnham Monday morning.

It happened on Stodge Meadow Road just before 10 a.m.

Police told WBZ-TV a 53-year-old man got into his son's Ford Explorer with his 9 -year-old grandson, but he couldn't figure out how to shut off the emergency brake as he put the vehicle in reverse.

The grandfather then opened the driver's side door and the SUV started rolling down the driveway.

The door hit his five-year-old granddaughter.

The grandfather then fell out of the Explorer and it rolled over him.

As the 9-year-old put the brakes on, the SUV came to a stop as it hit a tree stump.

The little girl was treated for minor injuries.

The grandfather was taken to a local hospital for observation.  He is expected to spend the night there and be released Tuesday.

No charges have been filed.
