BOSTON (CBS) – Perhaps you were lucky enough to be out of town the last few days, and didn’t notice it, but trust me, the college kids are back in Boston.
Listen to Jon’s commentary:
As you know if you got stuck there over the last few days, you could have driven from Boston to New York and back in the time it took to traverse Allston.
But out-of-town students, we’re glad to see you back, really we are. Or is it your money we’re glad to see? I can never keep that straight.
No, seriously, you inject not only revenue but energy into our neighborhoods, along with noise and empties. And in order to make sure your stay here is as fulfilling as possible, allow me to offer a few tips for enjoying your new home away from home.
Surely a visit to Fenway Park is on your list of must-dos while you’re here, and this year it turns out you are in luck. If you go to the legal ticket resale area just before gametime, I bet you will find a variety of good seats available for purchase or barter. If you hang around there long enough, you might even make off with some freebies.
Have a good time while in the park, and feel free to join in on booing the Sox. Just be careful with the “Let’s go Yankees” chants, lest you find yourself learning first-hand about our world-class teaching hospitals.
Boston has a terrific music scene, and we encourage you to check it out. But please wait until you are back in your dorm shower before singing your rendition of what you heard. Boston is a hard-working city, and hard-working people don’t relish having their sleep interrupted by your creative expression.
Now, a safety tip: jaywalking may appear to be the primary occupation of your fellow students, but it is not appreciated by local motorists. And remember: we earned our international reputation as hostile and heartless the hard way.
One last thing: do not make fun of locals you may see mumbling incoherently around the city. One of them may be our mayor. And if he gets mad, you could find yourself banned from town faster than a chicken sandwich with incorrect politics.
