BOSTON (CBS) – The Worcester Tornadoes are being kicked out of the Can-Am League.
After several weeks where the team’s financial troubles had become increasingly publicized, the Tornadoes relationship with the league has been terminated until the team can find more financially stable ownership.
Can-Am Commissioner Miles Wolff announced on Friday that the team will be allowed to complete its regular season schedule this year, but will not be welcomed back next year.
“We have taken this action because the league wants strong, financially viable ownership in the Worcester market,” Wolff said in a statement on the league’s website. “We will begin immediately looking for ownership for a team in Worcester that will be a positive influence in the community for many years to come.”
Worcester has been a member of the Can-Am League since 2005.
