Report: Micky Ward Bails On Scott Brown Endorsement

LOWELL (CBS) - Local boxing legend Micky Ward has bailed on an expected endorsement of Senator Scott Brown, reportedly after learning of Brown's stances on gay marriage and unions.

"I found out Scott (Brown) is anti-union and I'm a Teamster guy," Ward reportedly told the Lowell Sun. "I found out he's also against gay marriage and I say if you love someone you should have the same rights no matter who you are."

Brown opposed gay marriage as a state senator. However, he has recently said that he believes the issue is settled in Massachusetts. He has also said that the issue should be decided by states.

On Thursday, Brown had used the impending endorsement to take a shot at Elizabeth Warren.

"My message to Professor Warren is, 'I'm right here.' She's running against Scott Brown, not Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan," Brown said to WBZ-TV. "And I'll be back tomorrow getting Mickey Ward's endorsement. She's welcome to come up to Lowell, if she can find it."

A Brown campaign event surrounding the endorsement that had been scheduled for Friday, reportedly has been canceled.
