BOSTON (CBS) – A lifeguard on his last day on the job for the summer saved a man at Carson Beach on Friday.
Lifeguard Mark O’Leary discovered the man in his 40s who was face down in the water.
O’Leary, who is 19-years-old, pulled him from the water and asked beachgoers to call 911 and started working to revive the man.
Once the man’s pulse started to come back, EMTs arrived and took over.
O’Leary tells WBZ-TV he almost didn’t go to work Friday because he’s getting ready to return to college.
This was O’Leary’s fourth year as a lifeguard.
The state says there will be fewer guards at beaches this weekend because many of them are college students who will be returning to school.
