Gresh & Zo: Breakout Year For Patriots' Cunningham?

Despite last night's snoozer of a Patriots-Giants game, there were a few things to take out of it as the Patriots try to trim their roster to 53.

Gresh & Flynn were both impressed by defensive end Jermaine Cunningham on Wednesday night (tallying two sacks and three tackles), and during the preseason as a whole.

"I think he came with the sense of urgency," Flynn said Cunningham. "He's played better than he did all last year. They needed him last year, but maybe now as a pass-rusher, of those 45 guys you're suiting up he's a guy that can give you a little rush off the edge. With (Mike) Anderson and (Andre) Carter gone, that's 20 sacks you're missing."

They then go position by position, breaking down who should make the team with Friday's final cuts looming.

Gresh likes what he saw out of him, but isn't sure running back Brandon Bolden makes it past Friday.

"I don't think Brandon Bolden could do any more to make the team. That said, I don't think he's going to make the team. There's a numbers squeeze, plus, the other part of this roster management that we probably underestimate a little bit is the ability to slide someone through waivers and put him on the practice squad."

"If they release Bolden, is anyone going to pick him up and put him on their 53-man? Probably not," said Gresh.

One player that caught Flynn's attention was Nate Ebner, the Rugby player selected in the sixth round out of Ohio State.

"He seems to be around the ball," said Fynn. "And for a guy that was a walk-on and rugby was his game, he goes out there and drew the penalty on the punt coverage, he always seems to be around the ball and sticking his nose in there. This team and Bill Belichick seem to attract those kinds of payers. That's another guy that has jumped out at me and I like what I've seen out of him."
