Drew Magary On Toucher & Rich: Why The Patriots Suck

Nobody likes hearing someone say their team sucks, and that's especially true in New England, where some of the most fierce fans live and die with their teams year-round.

So even though Drew Magary's Deadspin story, "Why Your Team Sucks 2012: New England Patriots," was written as one of 32 of the similar humorous stories, it was bound to rub some fans the wrong way.

Magary joined Fred Toucher, Dan Roche and Jon Wallach on Thursday morning to discuss the points he made in the story.

"I said in the article that they didn't become fans until 2001. And then all the Patriots fans got on and they were like, 'Uh,, uh, excuse me. When we became fans, it was '94, OK?" Magary said. "It was like, 'No, no, no, we became fairweather fans much earlier than that."

Magary also said that Patriots fans tend to assume the same intelligence level of Bill Belichick.

"That's always the worst," he said, "when they think they're as smart as Belichick. That drives me nuts."

And the inclusion of Spygate references within the story?

"You know, that's strictly troll bait," he said. "You bring up Spygate, and they go wild. ... I don't think it's that big of a deal, but in order to piss off Patriots fans, it's always good to say, 'You cheated! Nothing you did is legitimate! Everything is ill-gotten, and you don't deserve any of it.'"
