Report: Patriots Sign TE Aaron Hernandez To Long-Term Extension

BOSTON (CBS) -  The New England Patriots have locked up the other half of their dynamic tight end duo, inking Aaron Hernandez to a long-term extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The contract is expected to be signed within the next 24 hours, per Schefter. The deal is reportedly through the 2018 season.

NFL Network's Bert Breer is reporting the deal is worth $37.5 million over the five years, and has the $1.15 million left on his rookie deal included.

The 22-year-old Hernandez has played in 28 games over the first two years of his NFL career, hauling in 124 receptions for 1,473 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Earlier this summer, the Patriots signed Rob Gronkowski to a six-year, $53 million extension -- the biggest contract signed by a tight end in NFL history.
