METHUEN (CBS) – Part of Route 110 was shut down Friday afternoon after an excavator hit the Interstate 93 overpass in Methuen.

A low-bed trailer was hauling the excavator down Route 110 when it hit the bridge above it around 12:15 p.m.
No one was hurt, but the bridge was damaged, leaving beams exposed and concrete on the road.
The excavator’s hydraulic lines were also torn open in the collision, spilling fluids on the pavement.

Police shut off Route 110 under I-93.
One lane of Route 110 was closed for the cleanup and the bridge inspection.
State Police said they expect the incident will have an impact on the afternoon rush hour.
