Pedroia On Pesky's Funeral: 'I Wish I Could've Been There'
BOSTON (CBS) -- When Red Sox players arrived at Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon, they likely knew the questions were coming about why the majority of them missed the funeral of Johnny Pesky.
Dustin Pedroia, who's wife is nine months pregnant, said that most players likely had their reasons.
"I'm sure everyone had a situation why they weren't there," Pedroia said Thursday. "I wish I could've been there. Obviously, everyone knows how we all feel about Johnny. We love him. We're all here for his family and everybody.
"I don't want to say anything that offends anybody," Pedroia added. "The only thing I can say is we're here for his family. Johnny was -- he was the best, man. We all love him. That's about all I can say."
Clay Buchholz -- who along with David Ortiz, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Vicente Padilla was one of the four players who attended -- said the team was not informed about the date and time of the funeral until they got back from New York in the wee hours of Monday.

"Nobody really found out until we got here at 3:30 in the morning," Buchholz said. "It was an off day the next day, so I'm sure a lot of guys had family stuff planned. I think there would've been a lot more people showing up if everybody would've known when it was, like if they would've told us the day before when we were on the road."
