CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire health officials say a Manchester adult has tested positive for West Nile Virus — the first human case confirmed in the state in two years.

The recent case brings to five the total number of cases identified in New Hampshire since 2000.

New Hampshire Health Director Dr. Jose Montero says the Manchester adult has recovered. But he stressed there have been 41 deaths nationwide this year and people should take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

Montero says spraying will begin Thursday in Manchester, where 29 mosquito batches have tested positive for the disease. Other New Hampshire communities where mosquitoes have been found to have West Nile this year are Nashua, Salem, Seabrook, North Hampton and Brentwood.

Symptoms of West Nile can include severe headache and high fever.
