BOSTON (CBS) – The man shot and killed by Boston Police in the South End Tuesday evening may have been involved in a fatal shooting earlier this month.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Bernice Corpuz reports

The man, identified by friends as Burrell Ramsey, was shot in the chest by an officer after police chased him when he fled following a traffic stop on Yarmouth Street.

“The suspect produced a firearm. He was ordered to drop the firearm and refused to do so. The officers fired one shot. The suspect was struck in the chest,” Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said Tuesday.

Ramsey later died at Boston Medical Center.

“Sad, a good dude, wasn’t causing that many problems. He had his history like all of us, but overall a good guy,” Ramsey’s friend Eddie Arnold told WBZ-TV Wednesday.

“To hear that news was heartbreaking. He was a good friend of mine and, in my opinion, he didn’t deserve that.”

A source told WBZ-TV’s Karen Anderson Ramsey had been released from prison on gun charges in the last year and he had been at the scene of a gang-related shooting on Canterbury Street in Roslindale August 12th in which one man died.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy. The officer who fired the shot has been on the force for five years.

Commissioner Ed Davis would not say what led to the traffic stop Tuesday evening, but did say that the vehicle was known to police.

On Saturday, the owner of the car was arrested for heroin possession.

The officers involved will be formally interviewed about the shooting on Thursday.
