Terry Ready To Add Some ‘Jet Fuel’ To Celtics
BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Celtics were just one game away from returning to the NBA Finals last season.
They took LeBron James and the Miami Heat to seven games, falling short of their ultimate goal of raising another Championship banner.
But after a busy summer of retooling the roster, the Celtics will be back in the mix again. And newcomer Jason Terry is confident the C’s will be raising that banner just over a year from now.
“If I looked at our team and what they accomplished last year – they’re one game away. They’re one game away from going back to the NBA finals, and I think they win it,” Terry told WBZ-TV’s Steve Burton Thursday at the Reebok Headquarters in Canton.
“This year, put a little ‘Jet Fuel’ into the mix, and I think we have the team,” laughed a confident Terry.
Terry On Tattoo, Joining Celtics:
Terry joins the Celtics after spending the last eight years in Dallas. The 13-year veteran has the reputation of being a clutch scorer off the bench, something the Celtics have desperately needed the past three years.
Terry has no problems coming off the bench, and he certainly doesn’t have any problems taking those clutch shots.
“When the game is on the line, I’ll be right there willing and ready to take and make the big play. I want it — want it,” he said, noting he has a “clutch gene”. “It’s just something I’ve done throughout my career. You can never have enough guys at the end of the game a game to go to to be able to win the game for you. I think with us, we have three or four guys that can get it done.”
If that doesn’t make Celtics fans fall in love with the sharpshooter, his infectious attitude certainly will. Terry is just as fun to listen to as he is to watch play. His confidence is the best attribute a scorer off the bench can have.
And he wears it on his sleeve, literally. Just look at his new tattoo of Lucky the Leprechaun. But instead of the C’s mascot spinning a basketball, it’s the piece of hardware the Celtics seek.
“He’s spinning the Larry O’Brien trophy, that we will win,” a confident Terry said showing off his new ink.
This isn’t the first tattoo of the trophy. He also got one tattooed prior to the 2010-11 season. At the end of that campaign, his Dallas Mavericks stood taller than any other team in the NBA.
“Similar situation, same type of feeling,” he said of the championship Mavs and 2012 Celtics. “Going into training camp right now looking at our roster and what Danny has put together – we have a good team. A solid core of veteran guys, two Hall of Famers, one of the best point guards in the league – the best if you ask me in Rajon Rondo – and a good nucleus of young guys that are going to have to play and help us out.”
