MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) – Vandals have destroyed a sign outside a Manchester church advertising a festival celebrating Middle Eastern culture.
The sign, advertising a Mahrajan festival, was destroyed outside the Our Lady of Cedars Melkite Greek Catholic Church.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Kendall Buhl reports
The church’s pastor, Fr. Tom Steinmetz, says it disturbs him that someone in the community would target a church for vandalism. He says he’d like to think the attack was random and had nothing to do with its Middle Eastern roots.
“There’s no way of knowing. I hope not. I don’t want to think so,” he said. “I would prefer to think it was more a crime of opportunity. The sign was out there. It’s near the sidewalk and someone just came up with the idea of destroying the sign.”
The church’s Mahrajan Festival celebrating Lebanese and other Middle Eastern cultures happens this weekend. The sign has been rebuilt.
