Police say 35-year-old Steven Gayle began firing a gun just after closing time, around 2 a.m., inside the Glass Slipper on LaGrange Street.

One person was shot in the head, the other in the face.

Their names were not released, but police said they are 28 and 31 years old.

The 31-year-old victim is in critical condition at Tufts Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The 28-year-old is being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A Boston police officer on paid detail outside the club saw Gayle after the shooting and ran after him.

"The officer gave chase and was assisted by an off duty officer who was in the area. The officers confronted the suspected who was carrying a loaded firearm, and ordered him to drop his weapon. After several tense moments, the suspect complied and was taken into to custody," police said in a statement late Wednesday morning.

There's no word yet on a motive.

Gayle, who's from Jamaica Plain, is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Boston Municipal Court and ordered held on $250,000 cash bail.
