NEWBURYPORT (CBS) – A Methuen police officer has been placed on leave after he was arrested in connection with a fight at a Salisbury bar over the weekend.

Thirty-eight-year-old Shawn Tardif was charged with assault and battery and destroying some disc jockey equipment after the brawl at the Surfside 5 Bar & Grill on Salisbury Beach late Saturday night.

Salisbury police told the Eagle-Tribune the fight started after Tardif either bumped or was bumped by another person.

No other details were available.

He will be arraigned Tuesday in Newburyport District Court.

Tardif has been with the Methuen Police Department for six years.
