Nelida Lozada was sitting with the child outside her Holly Street home at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when a man with a gun ran up to her and started shooting.

"She was just sitting there rocking the baby and some guy just came up and shot at her," the victim's daughter told WBZ's Carl Stevens.

Lozada covered the baby, and as she tried to get back into the house, she was shot in the shoulder, her daughter told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Monday.

The child was not hurt.  The gunman ran off.

Lozada was treated at a hospital and released.

There have been no arrests.  Investigators are looking into possible gang activity.

Lawrence police chief John Romero told WBZ he doesn't believe the gunman came to the home looking to shoot Lozada.

There has been recent trouble in the neighborhood, including a stabbing, vandalism and a shooting Christmas morning.
