BOSTON (CBS) – As expected, Josh Beckett will miss his scheduled start Sunday against the Minnesota Twins.
In his place, left Franklin Morales will make his sixth start of the season for Boston.
Morales is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA while striking out 31 over 26.1 innings in five starts for the Red Sox this season. Overall, he is 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 33 appearances.
Beckett was pulled in the third inning Tuesday night against the Tigers after suffering back spasms on a wet Fenway mound, and has not thrown since.
Manager Bobby Valentine said Beckett was feeling better, and a trip to the disabled list is “unlikely.”
