A woman was killed and a child was seriously injured in a hit and run crash in Springfield.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police say a woman who was struck by a hit-and-run driver while pushing a stroller across a city street has died, and the child in the stroller was seriously injured.
Authorities continue to look for the driver who struck the woman on Sumner Avenue shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday. Police say a second car ran over the woman as she lay in the street with the stroller only a few feet away from her.
The woman’s name hasn’t been released. She was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center shortly after 9 p.m. The child is reported in serious condition. It’s not clear if the woman was the child’s mother.
Police believe the hit-and-run motorist was driving a white Ford Escort station wagon that may have a broken side mirror.
