OXFORD (CBS) – An Oxford man shot and killed his 7-year-old daughter and critically wounded his 9-year-old son before turning the gun on himself on Saturday, the Worcester County District Attorney said.

A family member found the bodies of 41-year-old Daryl Benway and his daughter Abigail in the bedroom of a home on Main Street in Oxford Saturday around 5 p.m. and called 911.

The 9-year-old victim, Owen Benway was found in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to his head.

He is said to be fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

Police say Daryl Benway and the children’s mother had recently separated.

The children’s mother was not at the home when the shootings took place.
