Waters On 'Did Not Report' List, But Expected To Return

BOSTON (CBS) -  When the New England Patriots kick off training camp on Thursday, veteran offensive lineman Brian Waters is not expected to join them.

The Patriots placed Waters on the Did Not Report list on Wednesday, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

Veteran's were required to report on Wednesday, but Waters -- who is under contract for this season -- tiptoed around the question when asked by The Boston Globe about not reporting.

"I'm not really talking about it, you'll have to talk to the Patriots about it," Waters told the Boston Globe. "At this moment, I'm not really discussing the situation. Right now, I'm just handling things between me and the team. If they want to talk to you, that's fine, but I'm not really talking about it."

Waters did not attend OTA's during the offseason and was excused from the Patriots' mandatory minicamp. The 35-year-old talked about possibly retiring after February's Super Bowl loss, but he has not made an announcement.

It's likely Waters, a 12-year veteran, will take part of training camp off and join the team within the next few weeks. He did not have a training camp with the Patriots last season, but went on to have a Pro Bowl season.
